Tiago Hespanha

Tiago Hespanha is a filmmaker and producer. He holds a degree in Architecture. He completed the Documentary Filmmaking Course at Ateliers Varan, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and attended the Master in Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Since 2006, he has worked as a filmmaker, taking on a wide range of roles in his relationship with cinema (writing, photography, cinematography, sound, editing, etc.) and collaborating with artists from different fields (visual arts, dance, theatre, performance and music). He strives to avoid settling into routines, to cultivate curiosity and to remain in constant movement. He has directed several films, including CRUZEIRO DO SUL “nada sei, nada sou, nada valho” (2025, Doc., 27’), CAMPO (2019, Doc., 100’), REVOLUÇÃO INDUSTRIAL (2014, Doc., 72’), VISITA GUIADA (2009, Doc., 56’), O PRESENTE QUE VEIO DE LONGE (2008, Doc., 5’), QUINTA DA CURRALEIRA (2006, Doc., 18’), among others. His films have been presented at film festivals around the world, released commercially in several countries, and shown on television and online platforms. In 2008, he co-founded the film production company TERRATREME FILMES, of which he remains a partner. TERRATREME has produced more than 100 films and regularly has a presence at major international film festivals, while also being involved in numerous international co-productions. Since 2012, he has been a film directing tutor on the DOCNOMADS Master’s Programme in Documentary Filmmaking. In 2014, he became a full member of Ateliers Varan.
